2017 Mazda CX-5 Wins IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ for a Fifth Time

The 2017 Mazda CX-5 compact crossover SUV has joined the rest of the 2017 Mazda lineup as an IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+. That’s good news for Mazda and even better news for you. Heritage Mazda Bel Air, Catonsville & Towson has more for you here.

Every 2017 Mazda model has received a TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating when outfitted with optional front crash prevention and adaptive headlights, making Mazda the only automaker able to make such a claim

A 5-peat winner

Since the Mazda CX-5 debuted in 2012, it’s been awarded as a TOP SAFETY PICK+ every year. This year marks an unbelievable five consecutive years as a winner. The model’s standard LED headlights and Smart City Brake both played an important role in meeting the latest, strictest IIHS safety criteria.

“To Mazda, safety is about empowering the driver as much as helping to protect him or her,” said Masashi Otsuka, VP of Research and Development for Mazda’s North America Operations. “We’re proud of the accomplishments of the [Mazda CX-5] development team and appreciative of the IIHS’s recognition.”

Tough criteria

To earn TOP SAFETY PICK+ honors, a vehicle must earn the highest rating of “Good” for 2017 in five crashworthiness tests, an “Advanced” or “Superior” rating in front crash prevention, and an “Acceptable” or “Good” headlight rating.

Additional safety features

Mazda offers additional safety features and i-ACTIVSENSE® driver-aid technologies, such as Mazda Radar Cruise Control with close proximity warning, Lane Keep Assist, and Traffic Sign Recognition. All features help ensure the freshly redesigned Mazda CX-5 delivers a safe and confident drive, whether you’re alone or with the whole family. What’s more, the Mazda CX-5 accomplishes all of this at a remarkable value—a starting MSRP of $24,045.*
