Does Your Car Leak in the Summer?

You may have noticed that during warmer months, you will see a puddle underneath your car after you park it, usually when you have had the air conditioner on. You might also notice cars ahead of you dripping as you drive on a sunny summer day. But why does it happen and should you be concerned?
Why Does It Happen?
When you use your air conditioner, it can create condensation that will drip under your car. Similar to how a cold beverage will condensate on a hot day, the air conditioning evaporator will collect condensation that exits the car through the evaporator drain.
Should You Be Concerned?
As long as the fluid under your car is clear, there’s no reason to be concerned. Condensation is normal and doesn’t mean that your car is leaking. If you notice any dark or greenish fluid, that could be the sign of a leak. Keep an eye on all the fluids and fluid levels in your engine bay as the weather heats up. Extreme temperatures can cause the hoses and lines to crack and cause an issue. Being familiar with all of your vehicle’s fluids can help you determine if there’s a leak or just condensation under your car.
