What better way to see the entire country and stay safe than to explore some of the best driving roads in the country! These roads offer unique views, beautiful foliage in the fall, challenging routes, and a great getaway. Some are known for their historical significance, some for their beautiful surroundings, and others for some of the most exciting driving opportunities. Blue Ridge Parkway

The Blue Ridge Parkways is one of the most iconic driving roads on the east coast. This road stretches 469 miles through the Great Smoky Mountains in North Carolina and Shenandoah State Park in Virginia. It offers tons of viewpoints of the southern Appalachian mountain range to pull off, many overlooks to hike to, and trails to enjoy. Stop off in one or two of the mountain towns along the way to get a taste of local cuisine, support the businesses, and grab a few souvenirs. 

Route 66

Known mostly for its historical significance as one of the first highways in the United States and often called "the Main Street of America," Route 66 is a symbol of the American dream. This historic highway symbolizes the beginning of travel and exploration across the country. Today, the entire length of Route 66 cannot be driven from end to end but you can plan an entire road trip around the original route. Many miles of the original highway still exist, and the route travels along some of the most iconic landmarks in the country. It spans from Chicago, Illinois to Santa Monica, California, and passes through many major cities.

San Juan Skyway

This scenic and historic byway winds through the San Juan mountains in Colorado. Towns that many people have on their traveling bucket lists, like Durango, Silverton, Telluride, and Ouray are all along the San Juan Skyway. The road is 236 miles long and can be completed in about 6 hours without stops, but with so many amazing landmarks along the way, it's a great location to explore for several days.

Tail of the Dragon

For true driving enthusiasts, roads don't get much better than the Tail of the Dragon in Deal's Gap, Tennessee. At just eleven miles long, it may be one of the shortest routes on this list but don't let that stop you. In just 11 miles, drivers will enjoy 318 curves, offering some demanding inputs from the driver. This renowned road is incredibly popular among sports car enthusiasts and motorcyclists. The area also offers scenic drives, a great mountain town atmosphere, and easy assess to both the Great Smokey Mountains and the Cherokee National Forest. 

Cascade Loop

Stretching 400 miles through some of Washington State's most beautiful terrain, the Cascade Loop offers unique views and great places to stop. Could you drive the 400 miles in a single day? Yes.
