Production for All-New Mazda MX-5 Begins in Japan
The Mazda MX-5 is one of the most popular two-seat sports cars in history. In fact, it holds the Guinness Word Record for the world’s best-selling two-seater sports car. If you're like us, you’re eagerly counting down the days to its arrival. So we were very pleased to learn that Mazda recently announced that production for the all-new next-generation Mazda MX-5 is underway at the company’s Ujina Plant No.1 in Horishima, Japan.
Ever since its introduction in 1989, the MX-5 or “Miata” has been winning over drivers with its electrifying blend of laser sharp handling and fun-to-drive nature. It more than represents Mazda’s “pursuit of driving pleasure” philosophy; it personifies it in every conceivable way.
Of course, the numbers speak for themselves. And to date, production for the MX-5 has exceeded 950,000 units.
Despite its success past and present, the MX-5 continues to evolve. In order to meet ever increasing fuel and safety standards, while maintaining the model’s unique driving dynamics, Mazda has incorporated a number of signature elements such as SKYACTIVE TECHNOLOGY and its Kodo—Soul of Motion design to the fourth-generation MX-5.
Sales of the all-new MX-5 will begin in Japan around June, with the first models produces designated for the Japanese market. Following sales in Japan, the MX-5 will be progressively rolled out to overseas market.
